i don’t know a lot, unfortunately! there doesn’t seem to be a lot of information on their relationship, or on demri either, for that matter. what i do know is that they met soon after demri dropped out of high school. she hung out with people that went to the same parties as layne and i’m pretty sure that’s how they met. i’ve heard a lot of demri’s family blames layne for her drug use, but he isn’t to blame because apparently in high school, before she dropped out, she was already using drugs pretty heavily. from what i’ve read, her partying was the reason of her dropping out. other than that, i know they were engaged for a few years and they were both completely faithful. in late 1992/early 1993, layne even started wearing an engagement band so girls would understand he was serious. they broke their engagement off in late ‘94/early ‘95. the reason for this was basically because their addictions were becoming overwhelming and they both did want to get clean, but they were fueling each others drug use. they both knew they had to break up if they wanted to successfully attempt to get clean. layne writes about the break up in “lifeless dead” by mad season. i’m pretty sure they tried to remain friends after their break up and after layne got out of a rehab stint. layne still deeply loved demri and did until, and even after, she passed away in ‘96. a few months after her passing, he made his final official public appearance with alice in chains (at the grammy awards) and that’s it, really.
